Week of May 18 - 20 LAST WEEK!! Today is the last day to submit any graded assignments - it's not too late if you need to re-take either test... The last thing I'm going to ask you to do (by Wednesday please)... take a moment to fill out the survey for your class - it is COMPLETELY ANONYMOUS so "speak" freely - I do this every year - it is very helpful to me as a teacher - I learn from my students every day and hopefully, it makes me a little better every year - I value your input! I can not believe the year is almost over... it has truly been my pleasure - you guys, as a whole, have been my best group yet (for real)! I wish you all the best as you move on to high school! If there is ever anything I can do to help you (science, math, job recommendation...) or if you just want to say "hey" and catch me up on what's going on, PLEASE don't hesitate to text or e-mail me! Many of you have demonstrated your ability to get in touch during this crazy 4th quarter, but if you don't have my number - e-mail me and I'll give it to you! Love ya lots! Mrs. H
Week of May 11 - 14 WEEK EIGHT OF DIGITAL LEARNING
Mon/Tues - Continue with last week's assignments - I will post the test Wednesday - I hope to really see some of you guys this week!

Thursday - If you made anything less than an "A" on the "test", please do the "retest"!
Week of May 4 - 8 WEEK SEVEN OF DIGITAL LEARNING
Hey Guys! DON'T FREAK OUT!! So we are moving into "overdrive" - next Thursday is the LAST day we can assign work so I'm putting it all out there and you can work at your own pace - there will be an assessment next Thursday covering waves, sound and light - several "gifts" and reinforcement worksheets - the test will be multiple choice (similar to the electricity and magnetism test).

Week of April 27 - May 1 WEEK SIX OF DIGITAL LEARNING
Mon/Tues - I know it looks like a LOT! This is Chapter 9 - Intro to Waves... there are 3 "gifts" with a reinforcement worksheet per section and an additional enrichment worksheet for section 3. The last button is for the Georgia Virtual Learning website - it takes you to the first page of the unit - this is a great resource! It includes vocab, notes, examples, tutorials, etc. - the first 5 tabs is what we are covering this week - I would bookmark the website. You can "turn in" the work as you complete it or you can wait until the end of the week - I will provide the answer keys Tuesday afternoon. I am inputting the test grades today and I will get in touch with some of you individually regarding your test, but if you have questions or concerns, please feel free to text or e-mail me!

In an effort to be "fair", anyone that scored below their March 13 grade on the test may take the retest. It is essentially an open-note test - please don't rush! The only change from the original is the calculations on the last two problems - I changed the numbers... The re-test will be available through this Friday, May 1. Feel free to let me know that you've take it, but I will most likely not update grades again until next Sun/Mon...
As always, you know how to reach me if you have questions!
As always, you know how to reach me if you have questions!
Wed/Thurs/Fri (?) - so two "virtual" labs - no need to print out the instructions unless you are not able to toggle between the instructions and the simulation - you do not need to write out the lab or even answer the questions formally, but I would like for you to "discover" the answers to give you a better understanding of wave nature, properties and behavior. I am asking for "evidence" that you followed the instructions. Let me know if you have questions! If you intend to retake the test, please make sure you do so by the end of the day Friday!
Week of April 20 - 23 - WEEK FIVE OF DIGITAL LEARNING!
Mon/Tues - this week you will have a"test" on Electricity and Magnetism... I am providing you with "Study Guides" in the form of Chapter reviews (your Chapter 6 and 7 "gifts") - I have also "assigned" some OPTIONAL Extra Practice Problems from each chapter via the online text book (instructions and link in "helpful links" tab)... try to access them through that channel (I'm curious if it works!) If not, I am also providing a link to the practice problems... I will post answers to the Study Guides and practice problems (you can self-check using the online text version) Tuesday afternoon - THESE ARE NOT GRADED OR REQUIRED - JUST STRONGLY SUGGESTED! I will post the link to the test Wednesday morning - you will have until Friday to complete it! I'd like to schedule a ZOOM meeting for Friday just to go over the grading policy to make sure everyone understands how it works. In the meantime, if you would like to schedule a "private" ZOOM meeting to go over questions or concerns you are having, PLEASE get in touch with me and I will set something up! Hope everyone is staying well - I really miss seeing you!

Wed/Thurs - click on the link for your class to take the test - it is in Forms - you should use your 365 login in - 33 questions (31 multiple choice!) - the "problems" should all look very familiar (hint hint)... keep your resources handy. We start Waves on Monday! There will be an optional Zoom meeting Friday at 11:30 - I will send details for the meeting via Remind.
Friday - Zoom meeting at 11:30 to discuss test, grading and any questions or concerns you may have - password will be sent via Remind! You must use your actual name (first name last initial is sufficient) to be "accepted" - any nonsense, and you will be "dismissed"! "See" you at 11:30!

Week of April 13 - 16
Mon/Tues - ok... we probably should "meet" so I can explain how grading is going to happen - in a nutshell, everything you have done/will do, will be put in the "summative" category (ie. tests/projects) AND your grade can only MOVE UP from when we left on March 13. Feel free to e-mail or text me if you have questions - I am happy to set up individual/small group ZOOM meetings to answer questions regarding grading, curriculum, assignments, life... :-)
I will update Synergy this week to reflect what you have been doing since we have been "Distance Learning" - please send me your work via text or e-mail... you may not have done EVERYTHING, but answer keys were provided for everything so what you have done should be "100" if you've shown your work!
I will continue to provide weekly assignments to cover the curriculum - maybe streamlined a bit - I'm "here" so let me hear from you! Stay well!

Wed/Thurs - I have received work from many of you - thank you! Keep it coming! Check out the "Crazy" video demonstrating Faraday's Law... the Phet website has a pretty good simulation that demonstrates how a magnetic field can induce an electric current - I've provided some directions to guide you through... no pressure to turn anything in on this, but at least "play around" with the simulation - let me know if you have questions!
*the simulation is Java...you are not "downloading" just "playing" the sim - Java does not work on our school computers - if you have issues getting it to run, no worries! There is a "Faraday's Law" sim that is HTML format (not nearly as comprehensive) but it does demonstrate how electromagnetic induction "works"... (thanks to Lily T. for the heads up!)
For fun... so this is the part of the year (physics) that we typically do a LOT of hands-on labs/activities... I haven't posted any because I don't want you to feel pressure if you don't have the materials at home. Ben S (thank you!) sent me a YouTube of an activity (that we would probably be doing this week if we were at school) - he said he has the materials at home and suggested that many of you might as well so... check out "how to build a simple motor" - there are several "versions" of this - post a pic on the padlet link below if you do it!

Week of Mar. 30 - Apr. 3
Mon/Tues - Hi Guys! So after last week's videos, notes and virtual lab, you ought to have a pretty good grasp of the difference between series and parallel circuits... I am giving you the links to the Physics in Motion videos Series Circuits, and Parallel and Complex Circuits...AND the corresponding Practice Problems! :-) Let me know if you have questions. We will have a Zoom meeting this week - stay tuned for details coming soon!

Wednesday - check your work on the practice problems - let me know if you have questions! One last "gift" and worksheet on Electricity :-)
Thursday - so I was reading an interesting article about how this world-wide "quiet time" has impacted seismology and at the bottom of the page, there was a link to "science coloring pages"... so, of course, I had to check it out thinking I might find something "fun" for my students... there was one page that caught my eye because it is related to Physics and our next topic of magnetism... well, I stumbled upon a whole COLORING BOOK!! Yay! Check it out...really good information and if you want to print out any of the pages to color, please do and forward it to me! I will create a spot to share your artwork!

Week of Mar. 23 - 27
Mon/Tues - There is an entertaining video on voltage (thanks Jason!) and a "gift" on Sect. 2 Electric Current with the accompanying worksheet. There is a Physics in Motion video on Electric Current and the notetaking page (some find it helpful!) and the Practice Problems (you will use Ohm's Law)
This should get you started - let me know how you're progressing and if you have questions - MORE TO COME! (Yay Science!)

Wed - Today I'm providing some notes via PowerPoint (it's a little dry - just try to imagine yourself in science class with all the "extra" stuff going on...) Then print out the Phet virtual lab activity and click the simulation... click on "lab" not "intro" - you will build a series and parallel circuit and compare voltage, current and resistance measurements - let me know if you have questions!
Thursday - the answer key to the practice problems is posted... key to the virtual lab will be posted tomorrow! I know this is frustrating (at least for me it is) - given our time away has been officially extended, I will work (along with your other teachers) to bring you "face to face" lessons starting next week. I do not wish to add "one more thing" to your plates so it will probably be more like Q&A sessions that you may choose to "attend" as needed. I welcome your thoughts/suggestions over the next couple of days if you have any on this matter... are you already participating in something that is working well or not so well? Let me know - you know how to "find" me!
Friday - all keys for the week are posted! Let me know if you have questions or suggestions for the weeks to come! Enjoy the weekend - stay safe!

Week of Mar. 16 - 20
Watch the Physics in Motion video "Introduction to Electricity", use the Guiding Questions/Notetaking Guide if it helps you focus, print out the Practice Problems and see what you can do - text/e-mail me with any questions!
SEVERAL OF YOU HAVE REACHED OUT WITH QUESTIONS!! :-)
Let's put this to the side (for the moment) - below you will find links to a Khan Academy video, a Coulomb's Law worksheet (that provides a pretty good explanation), your usual "gift" and the accompanying worksheet... it's a LOT, I know... I would start with the "gift", then Khan Academy, then Coulomb's Law w/s and THEN the Physics in Motion... I will provide answers to the reinforcement sheet this evening, the Coulomb's Law w/s tomorrow and the Physics in Motion by Thursday... This will be it (work-wise) for the week. If you are working ahead and have questions, let me know via e-mail/text and I will respond to you individually... I'm "here"! Stay healthy!
Note: All the answer keys are below... HOLD ON TO YOUR WORK - no need to send it to me - you will get credit for everything you do (as usual) when we return - just let me know if you have questions!
